Summary of work done so far

Over the Christmas period I was intending on doing the final piece of my footage however I was unable to book a camera to do so. Also one of my locations may have become unavaliable due to the nature of the location, I am looking into getting the issue resolved shortly.

Another problem has occured with the choice in actress. Very recently the actress has had her hair changed into a shorter cut meaning that the continuity of my video will not be right, therefore I am looking to film again during the weekend of the 19th January. I have chosen this weekend as both my actor and actress are free on these days and will be willing to shoot the scenes the whole day and to also shoot on the 20th. To accomplise my deadline I am going to stay after colleges to get my editing done and then work on my reflective analysis during study periods or after college.

First minute of edited footage

This is the first minute of edited footage from my imagioned film 'Deal with the Devil'. For this first scene I had to do two shoots as the first set of footage had many mistakes which needed correcting.

In this piece of edited footage there are some shots which need to be filmed again, for example at the beginning of the diegetic dialogue the lighting changes between shots making the continuity of the film no right. Also I would like to film the shots were she picks the phone up to take the call, for this I had to speed the footage up because she didn't pick the phone up at the correct pace, because of the speeding up the footage doesn't look right and almost seems as though it's in slow motion.

As well as filming those shots I am also considering getting the actress to say her first few lines without cuts in between, I think this will help the flow of this scene because now it's looking as though there are gaps in time which I didn't want.

However I am very pleased with the editing and I am also pleased with the shots that I have captured a part from this few mistakes, which will be corrected in a third re-shoot.

Rushes

Tracking shot of Lola picking up the phone.

Lola entering the room

Establishing shot of the living room (Location one).

Lola putting the laptop down after speaking on the phone. In this shot I made the mistake of not panning up as she stands and therefore her head was cut out of focus. Towards the end of this clip I realise my mistake and asked the actress to repeat the same movements but I added a pan up when she stands.

Lola walking the stairs. In this clip I had to again pan the camera to get in all of her movements.

Animatic

I have created an animatic for my short sequence from my imagined film 'Deal with the Devil'

Synopsis

It’s a cold night in November as the dark nights draw in for the winter snow. It’s 11pm and after a long time revising Lola decides that it’s time for bed before her big exam tomorrow. Lola has been studying for months and one big revision session wouldn’t do any harm, especially if she wants to break the business world like her rich CEO father.

As Lola climbs into bed she feels that sudden sense of uneasiness. Even the clock sounds like a ticking time bomb. Lola closes her eyes and imagines she’s somewhere else. Suddenly out of the dark a hand reaches over and places a cloth soaked in fumes that cause drowsiness, over her face. The world turns black and Lola is alone.

When Lola wakes she’s freezing and scared. Looking around she becomes blinded by the spot lights that shine at her from a distance as she sits in a deserted garage full of implements that could quite easily kill her. Thoughts flood her mind as the door to the garage opens and a tall dark figure appears in the door way.

As time ticks by Lola finds that she’s here due to a deal the kidnapper describes as a ‘deal made with the devil’. Lola becomes ransom and soon realises her father isn’t as she seems and learns of other lies he has once told her. It’s only when Lola is released that Lola must face up to the fact that she is always his way out and must fight her father’s past to make a future, his actions now affect her whole future.
